Disclaimer: I received a beta copy of this book prior to the official release. This was, in my opinion, one of the strongest books in the series. We have some real character development for Yerin and Mercy here, as well as some important relationship development within the members of the group. We even get a little bit of story related to Orthos, which was a pleasant surprise. This book does an excellent job of introducing new antagonists and building tension as Lindon and his cohorts confront them.It also showcases one of the most interesting forms of character progression we've seen in the story to date - the requirements to ascend to the titular Underlord status. I won't spoil anything by describing the process, but I found it more compelling and satisfying than most of the previous forms of advancement. Finally, the book does an awesome job of showcasing just how far Lindon and Yerin have come since the beginning of the story. We really see them coming into their own here, and it does a great job of setting up for even more of that in the next book.Dross remains the best character, but no one should be surprised about that.Overall, this was my favorite book in the recent history of the series, and probably one of the strongest in the series. I can't wait to see more.

Will Wight is a master storyteller. In the previous books he created characters that each have a unique life of their own. In Underlord not only did we get to see the growth of these characters, their backgrounds are fleshed out, and personal growth is abundant. After finishing Underlord; having laughed, pondered, and perhaps cried, you'll be sad because the next book hasn't been released yet. The genuine connection you feel to the larger than life characters from Cradle will leave you feeling satisfied, but with an insatiable hunger for hiding in the background; just like Lindon's arm.Read this book, you'll enjoy it. If you have read the first five books, read those and come back. While it may seem like an intimidating number of books to read, each one will justify your time and leave you wanting more.

What did I dislike? Hmm, i prefer to read Will books every day, while eating Oreos. Unfortunately I had an opportunity to read this book the moment it was released ( at night, when I already finished eating all my daily cookies so I can maintain the body that women desire and man adore). So I had to stay up reading without sugary nourishment. On the serious note the book is the most action packed and probably my second favored in the series ( I loved UL slightly more). More than likely no one but Will is going to read this cos if you read first books there is no way my review is needed, and if you need this review to help you decide - progression fantasy is not for ya. Nice job monseigneur Wight nice work, have a cookie and get back to writing.

Underlord, short and simple, has it all. If you're reading the review section of the 6th book in anticipation of the experience you're about to embark on, then stop here. Underlord has everything you wanted, packaged and delivered in an adventure that takes everything you loved about Ghostwater, and escalates it to the next level. Every single word in this book served a purpose, and that was to leave us even hungrier for book 7. If Blackflame or Ghostwater were one of your favorite books, then take a seat and prepare your body for a full cream-stuffed treat.

I have been a fan of Will Wright's books for the last couple of years. I first encountered his work with the Traveler's Gate Trilogy and quickly devoured those books. I immediately picked up the Cradle series and was pleasantly surprised. It is unlike any of the other series I have read throughout my long reading career. I quickly devoured the series and enjoyed each book more than the next. I was excited to see this book coming out a week or two ago and pre-ordered it. It was great just like the other books and unfortunately I am already done with it even though it just came out today. If you are a fan of his other books you will enjoy this one as well. For those that haven't read the Cradle series I recommend picking up the first book Unsouled.

First thought - This is an excellent book. When I first read Will Wight House of Blades I was very impressed and I couldn't wait to read more from this author. I started the Cradle series next, I believed Soulsmith had just been released. I was hooked within a few chapters into the 1st book. I haven't found many authors that makes me anticipate their books this much. The Cradle series has gotten better and better with each book.Underlord has great action, wonderful character growth, a very good pace, and an overall sense of great/ genius storytelling that moves the whole narrative forward in a satisfying way. I felt like all the characters had their moment. The story still centers around Lindon but it doesn't leave anyone out. (I'm trying not to write any spoilers - so I'm not going to go into too many details). If you are debating on whether to get this book then don't debate anymore it is worth reading. If you haven't started the series then go back to the 1st book Unsouled and get ready for a treat. Make sure you have a few days because you will want to keep reading until you get to the last book in the series. (Disclaimer - You will most likely want the next book also, even if it isn't out yet).Congratulations Will on a excellent book.
