I absolutely adored this book. I initially came across this book at a gas station few days into our trip and I'm not sure what made me pick up this random book, except that we had noticed... some quirks. I found Icelanders and their culture to be incredibly interesting and unique, yet fascinatingly paradoxical at times. This book was an absolute delight to read, insightful in many ways, and helped this one tourist going around in a circle understand and see beyond the hot dogs, wool sweaters, and beautiful vistas. I would also recommend some of the author's other little books as well.

Just back from an all too brief visit to Iceland, I am curious to learn more about this strangely beautiful country and its people. This book has answered some questions, and whetted my appetite for more information.Being an Icelander raised mainly abroad, the author is in a unique position to explain the country to non-Icelanders. Of course, as she is careful to make very clear, this is Iceland seen through one person's filter. Because it's so openly a personal perspective I'd have liked to have had more of an extended author bio upfront, explaining why her family left, where she has lived, where she studied, jobs, whom she is married to, number of children, other family still in Iceland? etc. in order for me to put her viewpoints into context. I get the feeling she is well-known and perhaps she assumes people know her back story already, but I don't. However, not knowing that stuff doesn't keep this from being a well-written and fascinating read!This book is an excellent brief introduction to contemporary Icelandic society. I highly recommend it as a starting place to anyone who, like me, is ignorant but sincerely interested. I'd love to see a "for further reading" list of books (fiction and non-fiction) by other authors or even movies that the author recommends, for more Icelandic perspectives. Of course, I definitely plan to read more by Alda Sigmundsdóttir!

I'm planning a trip to Iceland soon and got this because it seemed like a quick cultural introduction. I've read many of the Icelandic Sagas and have a decent understanding of Icelandic history, but beyond the 13th century (and Bjartur of Summerhouse much later) I don't know much about modern culture and how Iceland has adapted to globalization and the connections that modern technology affords us.Alda Sigmundsdottir does an excellent job of identifying, explaining, and commenting on some of Iceland's major cultural idiosyncrasies and the influences that contribute to them. She bridges a gap between outsider and native because she is an Icelander by name and genes but was raised abroad and thus has experienced both sides. And, despite accurate (or at least it sounds accurate but we'll see when I visit) analysis of the country's culture and traditions, Alda keeps the whole thing light and casual and funny. I read this in spurts over the course of about a week, but it could be completed within a few hours. Each essay only takes a few minutes to read.Overall, this provides insight into a country that I don't think the globe really knows what to do with. It's such a unique little island that nowhere else on earth is similar. It's definitely worth the read and provides a good base to start from when you're visiting and looking to experience Iceland with a deeper understanding. Plus it was short and fun.

Delightfully entertaining, telling you everything you want to know about how Icelanders live and think. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and gained a great deal of information, while connecting you with the differences in the beliefs and traditions of the true Icelanders. A great book of insight.

Alda's personal history gives her a unique perspective on Icelandic culture. In essence, she's a Stranger in a Strange Land (must read scifi novel by Robert A. Heinlen). Alda was born in Iceland, but was raised mostly in Canada and Western Europe, moving back to Iceland when she was in her 30's. Whatever Alda missed out on by attending elementary school, secondary school and college abroad, she has more than made up for with her own research. Although Alda has clearly done quite a bit of academic research, most of the knowledge presented in this book is based on her personal experience of trying to "grok" (Heinlein reference) the social norms and culture that is both familiar and foreign to her. What I love most about this book is Alda's writing style - conversational, clever, humorous and incredibly informative. I couldn't put it down. In sumarry, both this book and Alda's other book, The Little Book of Icelandic, is a must read for anyone planning a visit to Iceland. If you're not planning a trip to Iceland, you should...it's an amazing "re-creational" experience.

It started about two weeks ago when I ordered a copy of the author’s other book, “The Little Book of Icelandic.” Now I’m obsessed — no — addicted. Suddenly, I own a copy of almost everything she’s written. This is another wonderful, hilarious page-turner that will hook you and never let you go.

Enjoyable and insightful book, though a quick read.Iceland has always been a curious place to me, because it is such a small country, with a unique geography and environment. I'm considering traveling there next fall, so I wanted to read a little bit about the culture. The essays were definitely interesting and helpful in learning a bit about Icelanders.

This is a very personal but at the same time quite comprehensive view of the Icelandic character and society, definitely worth reading before or during your trip there. Alda is an engaging writer. I highly recommend her other books as well,and if you are interested in Icelandic doings,history,and stories,subscribe to her blog.

I bought this book because we have often visited the Larz Anderson Park in Brookline and I was curious about the backstory.I very much enjoyed the mix of interesting stories and academic detail. Moskey has done a very nice job of gathering together the story of this wealthy couple from a previous age, that has been disappearing over time. I guess a moral to their story is if you are going to leave no great works and no children then be prepared for the memory to fade. They were somewhat like a US version of Downton Abbey where they spent their time managing their estates, travelling and dallying with the real world when it met with their convenience.I was most interested in reading about some of their interconnections with other famous people from the turn of the previous century.

As a member of the Society of the Cincinnati, I have been fortunate to spend many days at Anderson House in WAshington DC, The Society has maintained and restored much of the fabric of the decor (and important things like heat and light) since receiving this generous gift in the 1930s. I have often enjoyed breakfast in the :winter garden" pictured on the front cover. Our generation never knew the Andersons except for myth and fable. So it was a real treat to read Skip Moskey's fine biography. It brings the house to life with all the personal details so carefully researched. Much of the book covers also their elegant hilltop mansion in Brookline, MA which is no longer there. Their automobiles survive in the Auto museum in the magnificent barn on the property which was left to the Town of Brookline.Bringing here characters to life is a wonderful story and a good read, besides. Lars was a figure of his age and Moskey brings that age to life with color and flair.

Well researched and written, Moskey's book provides a fascinatingdetailed look at the life and times of the Andersons. A most enjoyableread, and a must for the present occupants of their former home inWashington, DC, which Isabel gave to the Society of the Cincinnati.

The story of Larz and Isabel Anderson is interwoven with the history of the United States at the turn of the 20th century. Gilded Age wealth, high-flying style, social-class attitudes and leisurely occupations are displayed with a mastery of detail in this first biography of the power couple of their time. Skip Moskey shows off his fabulous research skills in depicting the Andersons' lives through their expenses and consumption, from dinner parties they held at their Washington mansion to trips taken aboard their houseboat, the Roxana, and above all, the houses they built in Washington, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He draws the difference in character between free-spending Larz and frugal Isabel, whose down-to-earth and practical side did not fit so easily with her inherited wealth. But he also shows a couple whose relationship was framed in love and respect, and how that was expressed in their social context. This book is interesting social history. I would have liked to have seen more of a narrative, a theme, or a guiding reason to care about the Andersons, but I am happy to have met them!

The bio of Larz and Isabel Anderson is slightly odd in its arrangement, not entirely chronological but understandable given the areas in their lives to be discussed. It's generally well-written.I have visited "Weld" - the Larz Anderson Transportation Museum - a number of times as part of a motorcycle gathering on the premises. As an architectural historian and garden lover, I was fascinated by the grounds and the Wheelwright carriage house and automobile buildings, stunning examples of his style. The garden's remains were sad to see, however.The book is badly lacking illustrations of the garden, especially since it spends so much time describing them. This could have been remedied easily from the Archives of American Gardens at the Smithsonian Institution ( lovely photos in color and b/w of "Weld"). Also, the Larz Anderson Transportation Museum owns an extensive photo archive of the gardens. One must therefore purchase the Arcadia Images Of America "Larz Anderson Park" in order to satisfy any interest in what the garden looked like during its prime. There are also images of their vehicles in that volume. If the reader is interested in the gardens, they may access the Archives of American Gardens on the Smithsonian's website and buy or borrow the Larz Anderson Park book to balance the lack of appropriate illustrations in the Moskey book.

I have to say this is a wonderful tale of the beauty of redemption and how difficult it can be to get to that point.Cecelia Mecca has again written an amazing story that will pull you in with her wonderful prose and vivid descriptions. I have truly loved every story in this series and hope there is one for Aidan soon. Although part of a series this can be read as a standalone, but trust me, you will want to read them all!

Reid is asked to attend a Chief's council at Highgate where he meets Allie and is immediately drawn to her. She wields a longsword and sees him for the person he truly is. Reid, unfortunately , has made a poor impression on Gillian , Allie's sister, in the past. Allie feels that she must have Gillian's blessing to be with Reid. Between Gillian's lower impression and his own Reid must prove himself worthy of the woman he loves . And add a corrupt border warden and a clan that Reid must prove himself worthy to and you have a book that will keep you turning the pages into the late night hours . I really enjoyed this book . Ms. Mecca has another winner! On pins and needles waiting for Aiden story now .

The Border Series is an intricate web of interwoven / blended families, friends, and marriages, and each novel makes me anxious for the next installment. The Rogue's Redemption did not disappoint. The main characters are familiar from previous novels, modern in their thoughts and attitudes, and set in an interesting time and place (and always with the right amount of steaminess). I really love all of CM's characters, but Allie and Reid were so sweet and vulnerable, which made them relatable. I do tend to gloss over the political border aspect of the story just a bit - not that it's not interesting, just that I can't wait to get back to the love story stuff. This is one of my favorites so far.

Reid and Allie ‘s story was good one but got a little boring at times. I couldn’t really get a good sense of what Reid and Allie looked like, not much descriptive detail of their features as there were in the previous books. A pleasant and enjoyable tale with some nice heated passion, but was missing something.

Reid is a bad, bad boy. Allie is a very determined lady. And Cecelia Mecca is a kick arse author. I love this series. When a new book comes out it is like revisiting old friends that you haven't seen for a while. It was nice to catch up with Toren and Jules from The Chief's Maiden and the rest of the gang. You can tell that Ms. Mecca loves her characters and through her writing she makes you care about them too.

This is the first book I read by this author and I really enjoyed it. I loved Reid and Allie and their road to Hea! I am planning on reading the other 7 books in the series and of course book 9 which is coming soon!

Another good read by Cecelia Mecca of the time in Scottish and English unrest on the border. Reid was such an interesting character, one side to everyone and his true side hidden, but finally came out.

I have read all of the books in this series. Very good! I love this author because her historical facts are very well researched, and the storyline makes sense.

Saying that Pancho Barnes was a character would be like saying Al Pacino is an actor. Almost everyone is familiar with Amelia Earhart but most are not aware of the numerous other accomplished women pilots of that same era, including Pancho Barnes. Pancho had also set many records and broke some that had been set by her better-known compatriots. Pancho was not averse to getting dirty working on the planes she flew as well as other machinery and that combined with the way she typically dressed resulted in her often being mistaken for a man. She also worked as a stunt pilot for movies and organized a stunt pilots union to improve the pay and dangerous conditions that they dealt with.She had been born to wealth and had been greatly influenced by her grandfather who was an inventor, businessman, risk taker, etc, and Pancho inherited many of these traits. My first real exposure to Pancho's story was through a 1988 movie that starred Valerie Bertinelli as Pancho Barnes, which vastly improved on the real Pancho's looks. Pancho wasn't pretty, she swore as a normal part of her vocabulary, constantly told off-color stories, and developed a liking for younger men-including one of my uncles who was married to her, for a while. But she was always up for a good time and would freely share whatever she had. Her parties went on for days and were legendary, attended by fellow pilots and Hollywood friends.She had many great business ideas but as soon as thing started coming together she lost interest and was on to the next thing. This combined with a total lack of financial common sense resulted in her going through money like there was no end to it resulting in many business failures. Along the way, because of her connections with other pilots, including Jimmy Doolittle, Chuck Yeager, and others, she developed a pilot training center on her property during WWII and many of her acquaintances along the way continued to hang out at her facilities including the book's namesake Happy Bottom Riding Club. She experienced many successes but also many failures. This book was well written and researched and put some realism to the life of a very colorful individual that had been softened quite a bit for the 1988 movie.Anyone with an interest in the early days of aviation, women in aviation, WWII pilot training, development of new aircraft and the test pilots who proved them, and how not to run a business as well as many other topics will enjoy this book. To sum up Pancho Barnes' general philosophy in life I will just list one of her quotes here: Ah, hell. We had more fun in a week than those weenies had in a lifetime. - Pancho Barnes

An excellent book, which deserves to be read just as much for the writing style as its fascinating subject matter. Pancho Barnes features in passing in various books biographies about the Muroc/Edwards AFB era, so the broad parameters of her story are reasonably well known. Lauren Kessler's research, however, is very detailed and paints a full picture of a very interesting character. Even though the "riches-to-rags" story is fairly obvious, the manner in which it is presented is captivating. I could not put this book down.One very (very) minor flaw with the book: a map of the Antelope Valley area showing the location of the Happy Bottom Riding Club between the Edwards and Rosamond dry lakes would have assisted readers with conceptualising those parts of the book. That however is a very minor point and doesn't stop me giving it 5 stars.Well worth the read.

This is no mere biography...it's a tour de force of the woman behind all the legends.Pancho Barnes was raised by wealthy parents. Her grandfather had made his fortune with patents and in real estate in the early part of the 20th century. Her grandfather died broke, but he lived large. Her grandfather and father doted on her and indulged her every wish. She was puzzled by her mother's world of socials, needlework and fancy dresses. She was dazzled by horses, the outdoors and demanding physical activity.Early on, it was clear that Florence was not going to be a beauty, nor was she the shy and retiring kind. She rode horses, played outside and generally behaved as a young boy. School bored her. Afternoon teas and theidea of running a house set her teeth on edge. Even though she obeyed her family's wishes and married an Episcopalian minister and had one child, she was never a conventional wife or mother, in any form, shape or fashion.As a diversion from her unhappy marriage, she found work as a horse wrangler in the fledgling movie industry. She worked as a stunt person in some of the films she provided horses for. She discovered flying and it became her life-long passion. She found love in the arms of many men, including her four subsequent husbands. She cussed like a sailor, drank whiskey with the best of them, and rubbed elbows with Hollywood elite. She could hold an audience captive with her storytelling acumen. She ran a dairy farm, a pig breeding business, a boisterous resort and maintained a stable full of fabulous horses. She spent three fortunes and died broke, but she lived life to the fullest and made the most of every moment.I read this book in one sitting and dare anyone who starts it to try and put it down.Pancho Barnes was one of a kind. Pancho was a very interesting personality, to say the least. I first read about her in Chuck Yeagers autobiography then later in Bob Hoovers Autobiography. Had to get more information on this accomplished though flamboyant person. She was definitely one of a kind and left her mark on the world of flying.

This was a required textbook for an MBA class. It wasn't a bad read, but had a lot of relatively basically concepts explained in easy to understand pieces.The book is overly expensive to buy for its size and utility but that is typical of the industry as a whole.I would recommend renting the book (electronically is what I did) but you can also buy on kindle or used if the class isn't using the latest version

This book is poorly written. Although it does provide many examples, that's about all the author provides. Bolded "keywords" are throughout the text with little to no explanation. There also isn't a glossary of terms to refer to either. For studying purposes, this is far more annoying that necessary.

In the realm of conflict management and books this book outlines Interpersonal conflict and the management of them very well. It offers several facets of information that I did not expect. First I have noticed most textbooks do not account for the inevitable non agreement or approach did not work. This book made it clear that many attempts could be required or a conflict could not be resolved. Second, the book offered information to the reader who may be looking at becoming a professional mediator, offering some of advice on planning and strategy.

I gave this book the highest stars available. I enjoyed how the book broke down what conflict was really about and the various stages in conflict. We seldom look at conflict the way it was presented in the book and my initial thoughts were had I known about this book before now I would of handel things differently. It also opened up a new window on how my actions may be perceived by another person and also how I may have contrubited to the continued conflict. I was able at the endof the book to reevaluate my self and other in conflict. I try practicing one aspect of getting to the what actually happened by closely looking at my story and their story to find common agreement so as to work from that point towards resolution of the conflict.

Good book, not the easiest to follow but good for anything over a 100 or 101 communications course.

I found this book a great source of knowledge. It is terribly expensive even used. However it is choked full of great learning material about relationships, communicating.good.

The grammar! I mean several times I find myself reading the same paragraph again to try to comprehend it. The chapters are entirely too long for constant long opinions without actual facts...Total waste of my money!

This one is a text book and is required for a course I am taking in Conflict Management and Resolution for my Master's Degree.Our professor has done me proud with choosing a book which is not sandpaper across my eyeballs. Living in NYC & married to a first gen Chinese I was drawn to this story when I read about the recent passing of Cheng Chui Ping in a Texas prison. Having only living in NYC for 6 years and frequently visiting NYC Chinatown, the story opened my eyes and will give me a different perspective on future visits. I found Sister Ping to be a hero. Although she amassed a reportedly $40m (which I'm sure is overstated) she did it for the people. Her customers paid and were aware of the risks. I inferred from the story she did everything she could to take care of her customers including providing supplies, shelter and money when there was troubled on the route. She did break the law and deserved punishment, but to receive the max was nothing more than a political play. Ironically the judge (Mukasey) at her trial was nominated to become the attorney general of the US.My condolences to Cheng Chui Ping's family.

The Snakehead begins in medias res with an extremely interesting and attention-grabbing story, then goes into the background situation that brought that event about. I learned so much about human smuggling and the Chinese Mafia that I hadn't known before. The book is centered around a woman who runs a huge Chinese human smuggling operation, Sister Ping, but also explores the street "politics" that surround and support her venture. There are many characters introduced (it's a non-fiction book, however, so these aren't fictional characters), but it's not hard to keep track of them at all (plus the author includes a little Who's Who section at the beginning of the book that lists all of the names he mentions and describes who they are). This book is extremely compelling, and I highly recommend it.

If you're broadly interested in immigration, demographics, and true crime this book is right up your alley. Easily one of the best books I've read in the last 5 years or so.

all in all a great read and super interesting. definitely confused names up once in a while, but very much enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend to anyone.

A true tale that reads like an adventure. In fact it is a genuine human adventure with heroes & villains. But mostly human determination and perseverance!

I was assigned this book for an Organized Crime class at UCI. I found it very engaging, as it's mainly told in a story-like format. I was able to retain alot of the information because of this, and it was a very exciting read.

Just as another reviewer stated, students in my classroom actually choose to pick this book for silent reading (4th grade). They really like the photos in the book but the story keeps them interested!

Great Read Aloud for division

My 3rd graders enjoyed this as a read aloud and oodles of them waited to reread it independently, as well. The illustrations are fun, the phrasing easy to read out loud,...overall, I was pleased.

This book is a good start to develop math sense about division. Certainly it isn't going to teach rules, but my kids seem to get it. They are young (2 and 5) and keep asking for this book; they like the story and illustration. It compliments "2X2=Boo!," which I highly recommend for younger kids.

I thought this book was very cute. It was a great way to introduce the concept of division in my class.

If you want to learn how to code Android apps, this is a great place to start.The seven example apps are well chosen to teach you how to code the various aspects of an Android app.They focus on just the code you need to solve a specific problem, without a lot of setup code. The apps are graduated in difficulty, from the Hello World-ish Welcome app to the Address Book app. Each is a complete app. None is beyond the capabilities of a total noobie. For an experienced Java coder (me) they were easy and let me focus on what is different in Android from desktop coding.Oh, and their downloadable example code works.I hand-coded (not copied and pasted) each of their example apps on both my Mac and a Windows box.All the example apps worked in the Android 19 (4.4 KitKat) emulators on both machines. The exceptions being failure to write to disk and failure to connect to the internet. These issues most likely are related to either emulator limitations or my machine configurations and did not prevent the apps from running.Surprisingly, all of the example apps ran at reasonable (non-glacial) speeds in the emulators on both machines.The authors do an excellent job of relating their explanatory text to each chunk of code. You get the muscle memory from typing in the code, plus the understanding of what each piece of code does.Each of the seven exercises presents a half-dozen code concepts, with enough repetition for comfort but not so much as to impede learning.Besides the basics of coding an Android app, they show you how to:Access the Internet from your appUse a SQLite databaseSave files to your mobilePrint from your AndroidCode graphical sprites for gamesSpawn separate threadsHandle portrait and lanscape orientationsDisplay transient messagesUse Android event loggingAccessibilityInternationalizationIssues:Other than a couple of issues setting up the Android Developers Toolkit (Eclipse) there were zero problems. I attribute those issues to my proxy / firewall setup and to recent changes in ADT.The ADT I used had bugs that prevented editing the Android XML files using the ellipses buttons in the forms-based editors as described in the book. However, ADT also lets you right-mouse in the outline panel to get the editing menu. It also lets you edit the XML directly.In my Kindle eBook, the paragraphs were a bit long to read and digest comfortably, regardless of my margin settings.In Chapter 8, Address Book, the eBook version fails to display some "+" signs when concatenating strings. These are correct in the example code.The book would be improved if the authors mentioned that the generated Java (R) files are not generated if there are any errors in related Android XML files.One example icon file is named "yellow" but contains an image that is blue.The authors' only capital offense is their consistent failure to use curly brackets for single-line if-statements. In professional coding this is like putting land mines in someone's back yard. And, yes, it did catch me once here.That aside, this is an excellent book for learning to code Android apps.

Not what I expected at all. Actually, I like Deitel & Deitel programming books. Usually they are very detailed in their presentation and explain every line of code. Which for Android programming, was exactly what I was looking for. So if you want a detailed tutorial on writing an Android app, do not buy this book! There's actually very little code in the book. I guess the idea is that we download the 7 programs and analyze the source code.

I currently own six print books on Android Development and this one truly stands out for two major reasons:1) As my title states it is printed on quality paper in color and syntax highlighted2) It is the only book I have that teaches using the Eclipse GUI for layout as opposed to XMLWhy is this important? Until you know all of the available properties of the various Android Widgets/Controls (Views etc.) how can you possible type them in via an XML editor?This really open my eyes to what I could do with eact control on my page (AKA Activity or Fragment)Excellent book.

The challenge for any technical author is to balance detail and concepts. In this book, lines of code are explained, in addition to being commented, as well as having the usual self-documenting style typical of modern programming; consequently, some of the comments and much of the detailed description is unnecessary and seem to be there only to follow a book writing factory guideline. Because I respect the effort it takes to write a book, three stars is the lowest rating I give.

This is a good book but it is outdated as I write this in March 2016. The book details how to develop Android apps with Eclipse, which was the development platform Google recommended when the book was written. However, Google has recommended Android Studio for Android development for over a year. Most likely you will want to purchase the latest version of this book: "Android 6 for Programmers: An App-Driven Approach (3rd Edition) (Deitel Developer Series)" which was published in November 2015.

Doesn't give enough info on Android Studio which they are working on for the "next" edition so this edition is left incomplete. Both eclipse and android studio information needs to be updated. Neither update to the book is available on the website. Wait for the 3rd edition or buy another book. In contrast, the book has many example programs -- which is why I give it two stars instead of one.

When I picked up this book, I knew Java and have other programming knowledge as well. Book contains all the code and as such you can finish typing up book's code in less then a week. This book in my opinion is geared towards building standalone applications. If you are looking to build Android applications for business this is not a book for you.It does good job of explaining each application in detail. Applications are progressively more complex. What I dislike about approach these applications are built is that they are not very agile. For example, when I started FlagQuiz app, I could not test drive it until I've finished typing up all the code book laid out. As a programmer, I expected that structure of developing application would more interactive. First build out screen, run it, check that layout is as expected. Great, now attach button listeners. Great that is running. Next, add congratulations, etc.Bottom line, it is a solid book, if you have no prior Android knowledge and want to learn how to build simple apps/games. This book will be good place to start. But this books is not what I expected as programmer.Pros: - Nice progression in learning about different aspects of Android. - Covered a lot of ground quickly and without much repetition.Cons: - Lack of the good stuff most business applications require and that is interaction with business services, integration with cloud and authentication etc. - No mention of Permissions, what they are, how they are used etc.

My first thought after reading this book was how comforting it was to me. Almost like a parent scooping you up in a hug and saying "It's going to be alright. I've got your back. Here is what we are going to do." I know that may sound silly, but I got more out of this book than any religious type of thing, philosophy etc. (and I'm not religious in the traditional sense). After life's normal trials and tribulations in the past, what I took away from it was like a big clue or door opening into how all of life, both present, future and beyond, works. Gives detailed exercises (& a lot of them) to do/put into practice to get the Law of Attraction (aka LOA) into action working in your life AND how to get rid of the negative things, habits or thinking in your life. So it's not just a "philosophy", but a" how to" book as well. At least it spoke to me in terms that resonated.I will say this. Before even opening the book, IF one's mind set doesn't have the willingness to be open to things beyond what they've already heard about life, experienced in life and traditional (Eastern and Western) religions tell you, AND/OR you're only looking at it this whole concept of LOA, be if from Abraham or in general, with skepticism and a "pooh, pooh" attitude, then it very well might not be the book for you. Just like the saying out there, "If you always do, what you've always done..... then you'll always get, what you've already got".I can definitely tell you the Law of Attraction works, absolutely, no doubt in my mind about it. Believe me when I saw I'm am a very practical, common sense person. I gotta see stuff to believe it. I can tell you that I've seen it immediately happen in my life after getting the concept. Anything from "picking" my parking space at Costco, ahead of time, in the prime spot, at the entrance exactly where I wanted it to be, on a Saturday and WAY beyond those mundane things.You've got nothing to lose! You DO have to put it into action. If you don't bother to put into action and "receive", then all it will ever be for you is theory. If you remember that you DO have to focus, put your energies into and pay attention to only the good and positive feelings and quickly turn away from the negative ones and get back to the positive, good ones, that will start you on your way. One thing is for sure, again....Whatever you put your focus, energy and attention into, is exactly what will be bounced right back to you, whether you are aware of it or not. So get to learning how to deliberately put out good and positive stuff and you will be sure to "receive" good and positive things back in your life. Let the "universe" figure out the "how" of it, that is the Universe's job, not yours.Join the journey. The choice is all yours.

I see more layers with the passage of time and with practice. It only gets better. Not for those who think too much, determined to make things complicated - as I did for years. Practice. I ask myself nearly every day - is it really this easy? It is. Practice.

This is my favorite book I've ever read. I liked it so much that I'm now going to read more Esther and Jerry Hicks (Abraham) books from the Law of Attraction Series. The first book I read of a "spiritual" sort was The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. After that I read many others. I read many from the Eastern religions. Eventually I read many of the Seth books. While I got a lot out of many of those books, Ask and It Is Given is my favorite.What I liked about it so much is that its message is simple, clear, extremely positive, true, verifiable, and massively helpful. I would go as far as saying that the content of this book (an explanation of how to feel good in this Law of Attraction-based existence) is the most important thing anyone could learn and put into practice. Even how much you can benefit others is determined by how you feel, so your attention must be on how you feel. You choose how you feel based on what you are doing with your energy - allowing well-being to flow or resisting well-being. Well-being is always predominant, so the quality of any experience is determined by the degree to which you allow well-being to flow freely. What you give attention to, what you think about, and what you focus on determines how you feel, and how you feel determines what kinds of experiences you have. Bodily health, financial circumstances, relationship situations, and all other details of physical life are faithful reflections of how you feel. The only thing that really matters is paying attention to the way you feel, and allowing your energy to flow in a way that feels good to you.The emphasis on learning from life by listening to your own emotional guidance system and responding to that is refreshing. For the longest time, some part of me just wanted to read something that told me to pay attention to how I feel and choose to feel good. This book is life changing. If you are treading water and feeling like you're running out of hope, this will help you get to a better place. Even if you are in a good state, this will help improve it further. If you put effort into the processes and truly believe in the principles of these teachings, you will get results.

I read one page a day and by the end of the year, I was a different person. Everyday I would focus on a single quote and I would try to keep it in the front of my mind for the duration of the day and it changed the way I looked at and thought about things. Sometimes it was hard to comprehend into my own life but I made it happen and by the end, the ideas stuck with me and now I live differently. I would recommend this book highly but I also recommend reading Ask and It is Given by Esther and Jerry Hicks first.

This book help me get past my personal emotional blocks shortly after recognizing them and they can be improved upon. I am in a state of joy right now. You can have everything you want.

The book contains a wealth of universal wisdom and the card deck pulls out bits of wisdom that are easy to assimilate. It seems as though when I pick a card - it is exactly what I need to hear.
