Greg Gorbett is an Associate Professor in the Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology Program at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. He currently serves as a director for the National Association of Fire Investigators, as a co-chair for the Fire and Arson Investigator journal of the International Association of Arson Investigators, and as the executive secretary of the Crime Scene/Death Investigation Scientific Area Committee’s (SAC’s) Fire and Explosion Investigation Subcommittee within the Organization of Scientific Area Committees (OSAC) through the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). For the past fourteen years, he has worked as a fire and explosion expert with John A. Kennedy and Associates, Madison County Fire Investigation Task Force, and runs his own consulting firm. Professor Gorbett holds two BS degrees, one in Fire Science, and the other in Forensic Science. He also holds two MS degrees, one in Executive Fire Service Leadership, and the other in Fire Protection Engineering. He also holds a PhD in Fire Protection Engineering. Additionally, he is a certified fire and explosion investigator (CFEI), a certified fire investigator (IAAI-CFI), a certified fire protection specialist (CFPS), a certified vehicle fire investigator (CVFI), and a certified fire investigation instructor (CFII). James L. Pharr is currently assistant professor in fire and safety engineering technology at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU). Professor Pharr specializes in fire dynamics, building and life safety, supervision, emergency scene operations, and hazardous materials response. Pharr received an AS in fire science technology from Rowan Technical Institute and a BS in fire and safety engineering technology from the School of Applied Science at the University of Cincinnati. Pharr holds an MS in executive fire service leadership from Grand Canyon University. Professor Pharr has also completed the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland, where he is an adjunct instructor. Prior to joining EKU, Pharr was the emergency management director and fire marshal in Gaston County, North Carolina. Pharr is a member of the International Association of Arson Investigators and the International Association of Fire Chiefs. Pharr has published a number of journal articles and research papers. Scott R. Rockwell is an assistant professor at Eastern Kentucky University, where he teaches classes on fire behavior and combustion and fire dynamics along with conducting research and supervising graduate student thesis projects. He has earned a BS degree in Aerospace Engineering along with a MS and PhD in Fire Protection Engineering. Additionally, he is a certified fire and explosion investigator (CFEI) and a certified fire investigation instructor (CFII) through the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI). His current research includes active learning teaching techniques that minimize the student’s cognitive load, use of digital media in fire science education, alternative flame extinguishing techniques, radiation from dust flash fires, and investigations into the scaling of fire whirls. Among others, he has served on the Society of Fire Protection Engineering (SFPE) Educational Committee and the Association for Fire Safety Science (IAFSS) Education Subcommittee. A lot of improvement from the first edition.

Well written, easy to read, and exciting stuff

The quality of the book is outstanding, I love the the way it explain the subject and the illustrations are really helpful.

Great practical book. I recommend it all the time to fire dynamics students. Not as technical as Drysdale, No differential equations. If you need to use Drysdale for a college course, this book might help you understand it better. Its more practical but not as academic.

Thomas P. Edmonds, Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Accounting at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He has written numerous articles that have appeared in many publications, including Issues in Accounting, the Journal of Accounting Education, Advances in Accounting Education, Accounting Education: A Journal of Theory, Practice and Research, the Accounting Review, Advances in Accounting, the Journal of Accountancy, Management Accounting, the Journal of Commercial Bank Lending, the Banker’s Magazine, and the Journal of Accounting, Auditing, and Finance. Dr. Edmonds has served as a member of the editorial board for Advances in Accounting: Teaching and Curriculum Innovations and Issues in Accounting Education. He has published five textbooks, five practice problems (including two computerized problems), and a variety of supplemental materials including study guides, work papers, and solutions manuals. Dr. Edmonds’s writing is influenced by a wide range of business experience. He is a successful entrepreneur. He has worked as a management accountant for Refrigerated Transport, a trucking company. Dr. Edmonds also worked in the not-for-profit sector as a commercial lending officer for the Federal Home Loan Bank. In addition, he has acted as a consultant to major corporations, including First City Bank of Houston (now Citi Bank), AmSouth Bank in Birmingham (now Regions Bank), Texaco, and Cortland Chemicals. Dr. Edmonds began his academic training at Young Harris Community College in Young Harris, Georgia. When I saw Romeo & Juliet in the theatre -- on its opening weekend -- after the film in the lobby I saw dozens of teenaged girls sobbing in each other's arms. I've never seen anything like that before or since. That alone marks the film as a masterpiece, and nothing any critic can say is relevant next to that emotional reaction. Those sobbing teenagers are absolute proof that any critic who panned this film is a fool.Di'Caprio wasn't very famous at that point (though I believe he'd already been nominated for an oscar for an indy film). Later that night, I had dinner with friends and predicted that this boy would become the biggest star in Hollywood -- by tomorrow! I was off by a couple of years. Rare in film history has there been such a perfect casting -- Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo. The mythical balcony scene is freshly designed and executed wonderfully, bringing the myth to life before our eyes. But the crowning glory and superpower of this film is the 'love at first sight' scene - ironic in that there are no words spoken (words being Shakespeare's superpower). It's all done with the eyes by the two young genius actors, combined with inspired camera work and the devastating vocal performance of Des'ree. This is one of the most beautiful, greatest, and most powerful scenes in cinematic history.What is this emotion -- love at first sight? It might only happen two or three times in our entire lives. It isn't real love. So is it just trivial, adolescent silliness? I think it is much more than that -- and so did Shakespeare. What is our emotional relationship with our desires that can never be? We're haunted forever by the impossiblity of perfect love as much as we were ever thrilled by the fantasy of it. Baz Luhrmann's 'Romeo & Juliet' taps deeply into the impossible longings that never leave us. It is a masterpiece.

As an English teacher, teaching Shakespeare can be quite a challenge. For modern students, trying to connect the concepts, theme, and setting of Romeo and Juliet can be quite a challenge. Keeping them engaged in the struggle of Shakespearean language is even more so. This version of the play is accurate and most importantly, entertaining. We, as a class, will read a portion of the play and then I will show this film to help cement ideas, dialogue, and characters. The students love the film, laugh, and respond better to the play than without!

I did not want to see this movie for years after its release. I consider myself a purist where the Bard of Avon is concerned. I adored the films Henry V & Much Ado About Nothing, both directed and starring Kenneth Branaugh, Richard III starring and directed by Olivier. Period costumes, true to Shakespeare's lines, etc. I began to change when I realized (fairly early on in watching it) that 10 Things I Hate About You, was a delightful retelling of The Taming Of The Shrew. Eventually I watched this and found a gem. From the factions portrayed as rival gangs, to the outstanding delivery of the lines. The true crowning jewel is the over the top performance by the inimitable John Leguizamo. As Tibalt, John is amazing.

I really love this book. It made understanding a lot easier for my students. ~BUT~ I will say that some parts are a little much. It seems the translator looks for the most vulgar way to word some of Shakespeare's crude jokes (Shakespeare is crude, to be sure--and some of it is quite funny. However, sometimes the translator goes too far the other way). Plus, there were parts that weren't necessarily as sexual in the original as it was presented in the translated version (like scenes that were purposely left ambiguous so that it might have been interpreted in more than one way). This actually took away from the cleverness and thoughtfulness of some of Shakespeare's jokes.Because of this, I had to pre-read all the scenes to choose which scenes we read in this book, and which ones we read from the original text (from the textbook, where students couldn't read the translation). I did find, however, that the classes that used BOTH original and translated readings for the unit had an easier time understanding the original text when challenged to do so (likely because they didn't feel as overwhelmed from days of old text).This is a very useful tool for the classroom. Both versions are important--and, truthfully, some of my students preferred the original text, and some preferred the new text, so switching between the two for certain scenes was a great exercise.

This is such a great reimagining of the Shakespearean play. My students love this version and it keeps their attention with the fast-paced plot, colorful scenes, and flashy costumes. However, this edition is the NEW Music edition of the DVD, so there are added bonuses to this new disc. The music edition features a 45 minute documentary of how they picked the songs that were used in the movie. Twenty years after this film came out, my students are still singing along with some of the songs--they were the perfect choices and were timeless songs (and hey, if my students know Prince's "When the Doves Cry" more than 30 years after the song's initial release, yes, it is timeless).My DVD did not look like the photo (the cover is a bit different, although it does say "Music Edition") but I bought it for the movie and not for the cover. If you are a fan of this version of the movie and you don't have the music edition, you need this one. If you're just a Romeo and Juliet fan and have (gasp!) never seen this 1996 version, go ahead and take a chance. You'll love it.

About the Author

Major Ralph P. Ganis is a native of North Carolina. Prior to writing The Skorzeny Papers, Ganis was a noted Jesse James historian and authored several books and articles on the James-Younger Gang. His historic revelations in Uncommon Men: A Secret Network of Jesse James Revealed resulted in Ganis receiving the coveted Perry Award and his book Desperate Measures: Jesse James and the Klan Battles of Reconstruction was cited as “ground breaking” by Duke University and assessed into their archives. Major Ganis has also served as a consultant on numerous documentaries and a Hollywood film on Jesse James. In 1994, Ganis was the first recipient of the Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Award for excellence in research supporting an intelligence study, given by the National Defense University, Defense Intelligence Agency and personally presented to him by the Chief Historian of the United States. Major Ganis earned a BA in History from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a Master of Science in Strategic Intelligence from the National Defense University, Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). Major Ganis is a veteran of three services: the USMC, the U.S. Army, and the United States Air Force. He participated in Operation Just Cause (Panama Invasion), 1st Gulf War, the Global War on Terror and the 2nd Gulf War.

Having read JFK assassination books for the last 25 years, this book clearly stands out among the best for breakthrough research. The book read like a thriller until its' anti-climactic finish. While I have read such authors as Jim Marrs, Harrison Livingstone, Anthony Summers, James DiEugenio, Larry Hancock, Dick Russell, David Talbot, James Fetzer, Douglas Horne, and John Newman, among many others, I can't remember Skorzeny or his organization coming up for serious discussion. QJWinn has always been an important puzzle piece along with the mysterious presence of French assassin, Jean Rene Soutre in both Fort Worth and Dallas on 11/22/63. More sinister is the U.S. Government removal of known OAS assassin, Soutre, from the U.S., immediately after the JFK assassination.I was disappointed in the author's shallow analysis of the motive for the JFK assassination. The Rometsch affair is not remotely believable as a motive. Lyndon Johnson, who was being investigated for bribery in a Senate hearing on 11/22, had a better motive than anyone worried about Rometsch. JFK was no saint but there was a huge compelling war behind the scenes between the Pentagon and CIA hawks on one side and Kennedy's attempt at rapprochement with Khrushchev and Castro, on the other. By November, 1963, it was clear that Kennedy was not going into Cuba and was about to pull out of Vietnam. The Joint Chiefs knew it and the Cold Warriors in (and those forced out of) the CIA, knew it as well. The problem was that JFK's popularity was at 59%. The intelligence community and for that matter, the national security state, had the assassination capability before JFK's election. The removal of Patrice Lamumba was an example of that capability. Lamumba's assassination 3 days before JFK'S inauguration, meant more than the sanitized version in this book. It was a war between colonialism and nationalism. Lamumba was removed and colonialism triumphed. De Gaule almost lost his life a few months before, to OAS assassins for not defending colonialism in Algeria.The violent removal of John Kennedy was a huge victory for war hawks who coveted a showdown in Vietnam and beyond. Their fingerprints are everywhere. They won with bullets because they could not triumph with ballots. Bullets were a big winner in the 1960s.Skorzeny's story, is proof that the CIA and U.S. intelligence were compromised by Nazis and right wing fanatics that were capable and willing to use means not permitted by our constitution to accomplish treasonous ends. This is an important but disturbing book.

Cast aside all the old theories generated by Hollywood films and erroneous research and grasp the solid facts concerning JFK’s assassination. Ralph Ganis follows his treasury of secret Otto Skorzeny papers and delivers to readers the complete foundation to understanding who killed JFK.

Unfortunately, the publisher inadvertently left the whole section of PHOTOS out of the hardback version, which included images of key DOCUMENTS, but they are in the Kindle version. A MUST READ for anyone interested in the JFK story. Perhaps when the book is republished, the photos will be included in the HB version as well. Needless to say, the author was shocked to see that they were omitted in the initial printing. This book is a must read for anyone who is interested in the DOCUMENTED truth behind the assassination.

Author appears to have done a great deal of research for this book, which is very impressive. And the book is also disturbing, if true. But too many flaws.First of all, this book is poorly edited. Aside from all the misspellings and other grammatical errors, an entire paragraph is repeated, leading one to the belief that this book was hastily put together and that author is jumping to conclusions. I must say it’s very difficult to keep all the people mentioned in the Skorzeny papers straight to be able to connect the dots, as author would like. Author himself, for example, mentions more than once a reminder of who a particular person is just in case reader forgets. That, frankly, should be unnecessary.The biggest problem for this reader though is the lack of hard evidence to support Author’s claims. The title of the book states “Evidence for the Plot to Kill JFK.” But there is no evidence. I also agree with one reviewer who dismisses as absurd the motive for the killing, i.e., the Ellen Rometsch affair. The veracity of the affair is still, apparently, alleged. And even if true, the killing of a President because of it is simply not believable.With the people found in the Skorzeny papers positioned to connect the dots, Author seems to be leaving it to the reader to decide. Well, this reader needs more evidence to decide. At the end, the book made me feel that Author went through half the Skorzeny papers, formed a theory, read the balance of the papers, then wrote a book in such a way as to conform to his theory.

OK it's an interesting read. The papers seem to be historically important. Ganis' bibliography is impressive, though it's hard to know if he actually read all the material because it's hard to mesh this background with the assertion that the JFK assassination was a mercy killing to avoid scandal or blackmail control. It would have been a lot easier, less costly to knock off the blackmailers, if necessary. How come the higher ups who supposedly were motivated by this to order the crime of the century didn't know that Hoover had already measured the will of JFK's own party to keep the scandal away from Kennedy? It's easy for the author to say that it doesn't matter whether we agree with the decision or not, because it happened, yet readers are offered no evidence at all. There needs to be more research done into the relationships between the Texas and European terror networks to clarify the historical record, because many other pieces seem to fall into place.I bought the book. Read it. Learned a lot about Skorzeny. So, for the record, don't share the author's seemingly starry-eyed respect for this man who very possible turned an awakening world into a degenerating human tragedy. Skorzeny is due immeasurable shame as are the people who this book revealed as complicit in facilitating his evil doing.

Good resource for my educational law class. The author has done a good job of keeping the case analyses succinct and understandable, makes them accessible for the lay person who needs to understands precedents to our current laws.

I had to purchase this book for a School Law class I was taking for my graduate degree. Although we were only required to read a certain chapter to present, I found myself reading more than the required- especially after hearing presentations each week. This book gives snid-bits of court cases for various categories.. it definitely explains why some things are the way they are in schools. Most the cases are from pretty old, so my one critique is that I wish it had more recent cases since education has changed so much over time.

I do not like the Kindle version of this book. This is my first time using a text book in Kindle format and will be my last!!! E-books have been great for me, but I am not able to scroll through pages easily and navigate. Very disappointed.

Required for school law class. Interesting to read but at times difficult to understand. If I was a law student I would have probably been more familiar with the jargon and understood it, but being in education, it would have been helpful to have been written with the audience of the teacher in mind. I had to look up some cases just to find out the outcome of the case since it wasn't written in such a way that seemed obvious.

It's a textbook that you get assigned to read for class, so you probably aren't ordering it for pleasurable reading. Having said that, the book is very well written, easy to read, and understand. I found it very informative.
