Mark is extremely well versed in strength and conditioning training generally and for the fight game in particular. I've known Mark for years, dating back to when we exchanged opinions on his articles in Full Contact Fighter. I was able to train with him for a short period of time and even have him teach a strength seminar for a group of friends. I've learned a lot from our exchanges and looked forward to his book - it didn't disappoint.Mark's book is different from most books on the topic in that he really emphasizes the basic principles of training. He provides a good overview of creating a long term training plan and how to build the medium and short term components of that plan in order to insure progress. He also provides a good comparison between linear and non-linear periodization. He covers not just strength and power training, but also endurance training, athlete assessment template, and injury prevention and rehab. Given that this is a relatively advanced book I was surprised he had a chapter on exercise directory, which while fairly complete, can be found in other books. Mark includes some sample routines - both for weekly or even daily timeframes as well as some longer, periodization-based examples which are very useful. My one critique of the book is that I would have liked to have seen an example of integrating the strength and conditioning workouts with the fight training in a 4 - 6 week schedule. Given his experience training fighters it would also have been nice to show an example of a 6 to 8 week training camp leading to the fight.The book is well researched, as demonstrated by the extensive list of references, but is grounded in reality based on Mark's extensive real-world experience. Overall I give the book high grades and highly recommend it for those that are beyond the basic introduction to strength and conditioning training and for those that are interested in applying those principles to the various fighting disciplines.

In the continued endeavour to improve my physical being, this book has become my go to reference. Gains in power and speed have been seen within a 4 week period that have astounded my friendly rivals. Great work!

I enjoyed learning about Chinese Mythology. I guess that I had not really ever thought about it before but in reading this book I discovered that I really was unaware of the mythology of the Chinese people.This is a short book that can be read in just a few hours, it is a great introduction. I recommend that you purchase and read this book.

I chose this book,to read more about the Chinese myths. A Nation's myths can give you insights into the people and how they believe and how they will react to others. It was very good and well written.

This booklet (not a book) -- 62 pages of fluff without scholarship -- should be a giveaway since it has no real value to anyone serious about learning more about Chinese mythology.

I began to read and figured I would finish it in a week at my leisure. I finished it non-stop! Tim tells it like it is from an addict's perspective, which is something most of us cannot relate to? Writing part of this book had to be painful in the fact that Tim had to relive difficult times in his life - but also had to be therapeutic in some way. As you will see Tim lost a son to the same addiction. Again something most of us absolutely cannot relate to?! In my opinion it is to some extent giving back and Tim is now able to pay it forward by what he does on a daily basis. And that is helping others in this sad and all too often common world of addiction that we read, hear and see about on a daily basis. This is an amazing story, he is an amazing man, and you will not be disappointed you bought this book!

Tim Ryan leaves nothing to your imagination in this journey of his life down the road of addiction. If you didn't know what it's like to be an addict, you will thru Tim ' s truthful story. But, have tissues handy, I cried thru every chapter. He's now in recovery and he let's us know why recovery and your higher powered is a road he will walk the rest of his life. 5 stars are not enough, nor would 500 be. A must read for families together.Tim Ryan has saved so many from the hell of heroin, but he's lost many and this is what fuels him. Watching a loved one detox from heroin is painful. Fighting for their rights in early detox is excruciating. There's not enuf thank yous for you Tim, nor blessings. Peace...

This is the least interesting book on addiction I've read in a long time.I'm sure there is a story but it's not in the book, even though the author overdosed and died multiple times - stories that are not in the book. What's in the book is the sucess story of water skiing and making a lot of money on multiple businesses, going to jail, getting clean and preaching god. Not worth the money!

I just finished reading this book. Wow! It is very well written and it really helped me understand the mindset of addict. Every chapter is very emotional. I believe this book will be a very helpful resource and tool for addicts in active addiction, people in recovery and anyone who has a family member or friend in addiction. Thank you Tim Ryan for sharing your life story.

I have read this book three times and am still enthralled. This is a must read from a man who doesn't sugar coat a thing. It should be a mandatory read for every high school student!!! I bought this book for one of my kids who loves retro video games and video game documentaries. I just hoped this comic wouldn't suck. I've only flipped through it so far, but it looks absolutely fantastic. The art, the layout, everything is top notch. Not to mention, this is a pretty hefty tome. Someone clearly put a lot of love into this project and should be really proud of the end product. I'm certain my son will treasure it.

I am very surprised I hadn't heard of this book before, and I couldn't have given a better gift. In fact, I may buy another for myself! The recipient devoured it in days, but this is the sort you can revisit for years and lend to everyone you know. Full of tons of information from the very start of gaming until now, the text is entertaining and informative. The art style works well with the incorporation of a variety of video game characters, actual figures, and scenery. The book itself is high quality printing and color, and I plan to keep an eye out for what may come next.

A wonderful and entertaining look through the evolution and history of computers and video games. There is really a lot of focus (good!) on the actual men who made the machines and the first video games... it's not just a silly encyclopedia of video games.

Lots of information. a little difficult for my 9 year old, but had lots of information.

Really tells the story of how video games came to be now with pictures and dialogue in it. Came a very long way and can recommend it to gamers and anyone looking into this history.

Kinsey is dubious about finding any new leads after so much time has elapsed. She's also worried about having to move out of the office space she now occupies in the suite owned by her lawyer, and between her interviews with suspects she tries to rent a new office from a pair of brothers whose mysterious background begins to make her suspicious. Grafton's Santa Teresa seems more like Ross Macdonald's town of the same name than ever before, with dysfunctional families everywhere jostling for the private eye's attention. The novel has a hard-edged, wintry ambience, echoed in Fiona Purcell's obsession with angular art deco furniture and architecture. Unfortunately, Grafton's evocation of the noir crime novels and styles of the 1940s, although atmospheric, doesn't make up for a lack of suspense and lackluster characters. Ms. Grafton's writing style of the character, Kinsey Millhone, is good as usual. She peppers a novel with wit and vivid descriptions. I'm not so sure she actually finished this story, or should have kept on writing until she actually reached an actual conclusion. The novel has both a plot and a very good subplot. The subplot finishes off pretty well. The main plot, not so well. She leaves unanswered questions and loose ends which need to be tied up. After finishing, I knew who did it, but was left wondering why. There's a blurb of a sentence in which a secondary character joins a main character and the reader can read whatever into the relationship of the two. It's a sentence or two which appears from nowhere. The reader never really is answered as to why the crime took place. There's a nice little serene finish on the last page, but it doesn't atone for the plot's void.Oh, don't expect a "Respectfully yours" epilogue to help wrap the novel either. There isn't one.

Unsolved. I really enjoy Sue Grafton's work but this one left questions unanswered.Interesting storyline, believable characters and realistic dialogue.No desire to re-read this story. I am always interested in works by this author.

Have always enjoyed all of Kinsey's adventures, predicaments, and foibles. Loved this story with the major plot and sub(plots). But this was the first time where after reading the last line of the book, it was like 'is that all there is?' There was no epilogue or 'Respectfully Yours' so it felt like there were a few loose threads. I chuckled where one reviewer said they went to the bookstore to check if they were missing THE last chapter. I felt exactly the same way. Having said that, I still highly recommend 'P is for Peril' for all Kinsey Millhone fans.

I am new to this series compared to many other reviewers. Have read them in order and really liked this one up to the end, which left me scratching my head. Have so many questions left unanswered.Just one involves the two murderous brothers and the "insurance investigator" who wasn't. If the brothers were the only ones who had the combination to the safe, how did the phony investigator get the jewels out of it? And what was the point of involving Kinsey? There are many other questions left unanswered by this one. When you read the professional reviews provided, all of which praise this book and the author, you can't help but wonder if any of them actually READ this book. You would think someone would have noticed all the holes.

I've never read a Sue Grafton book that I didn't enjoy - or look forward to reading again, for that matter! This is the first time I've tried the Kindle edition, even though I own literally thousands of them. (I'm not exaggerating, there are so many priced at free or $.99 - and this one was less than two bucks!) If you love mysteries and great storytelling, without the grim blood and gore, but laced with humour? This is your author. Any letter in her alphabet will make a believer out of you! ;-)Jgtimm

I found Kinsey funny when she would describe people she met throughout the story. It started out a little slow but got me hooked after a few chapters.I'm sad that there will be no more Sue Grafton books after Y.

Disappointing...there is no ending. I started at A and just finished this P. This is the first time that there was no ending. Its the weirdest, I actually thought my download had gone funky. But I checked with a friend that has this in hardcopy and she said that's just the way this one ends. I've really enjoyed the other books.

I did not get an ending...just a lot of questions. It was like someone forgot to put the last chapter in before printing.

I received ALL of Bookburners season 1 (including this first episode) from Netgalley, and loved it. It reminds me of Warehouse 13 from Syfy--with demons and books at the heart of the unusual occurrences; someone else mentioned Torchwood. Episode 1 is an exciting story that jumps right into action without a lengthy intro. The main characters, each distinct, are introduced and the dialog enhances the personalities.Each episode, especially in the first 1/2 of the season, is a complete story. The second half, episodes build and tie in previous episodes. The characters pulled me in and kept me wanting to learn more about why and how each member of the team came to the Society. Setting descriptions were vividly detailed. A real pleasure to read.If you enjoyed this episode, keep reading! The episodes build with unique demons to fight. I am awaiting season 2!

Jeremy deserves a bravo for this amazing resource with a million insights... There are so many thought provoking revelations.... I am compelled to go deeper into mindsets and ways of God brought forth... I hope Jeremy writes some short books to further capture these deep life and God principles.. I give this book six stars not five !!!

I'm reading this book for a class, and it's not too hard to understand for a college student as long as you approach things slow. It's a good enough read but I really wish the eBook had real page numbers (it only had "Location Numbers for the Kindle Book--like Location 1909 instead of page x) because that complicates citing it for an essay.

I admiringly only read several chapters of the book before putting it back on the shelf; but from what I read this book lacks any depth in the discussion of Judaism and the environment. This could have been written as an article, but extends arguments and points way to the point of utter boredom. Yawn. If you can still find it, I would recommend: Trees, Earth and Torah: A Tu B'Shevat Anthology

Had to get it for a class at CSUN, otherwise would have NEVER gotten this book

Most discussions of what Judaism has to say about the environment involve quoting a few relatively well known verses from traditional Jewish sources (i.e. the bible) and expounding on how they demonstrate that Judaism is an environmentally friendly religion. While Jeremy's book quotes all these verses, it doesn't stop there. It goes much much further and creates a learned, sophisticated and nuanced connection between Judaism and pro-environmental policies and behaviors.(Full disclosure: I recently met Jeremy for the first time when I participated in a multi-day hike in Israel to raise money for The Heschel Center, Jeremy's NGO, which works on environmental issues in Israel and for another environmental group. I've written these comments on my volition without Jeremy's knowledge).

I cannot recommend this book highly enough!It was written by my teacher Dr. Jeremy Benstein, one of the founders of the Heschel Center in Tel Aviv. Jeremy sent me the proofs to read during the summer, for a project that I am working on under his tutelage, and I read it like a novel. It is fantastic!Written in an easy and flowing style, assuming little about the reader's knowledge of Jewish tradition, it is nevertheless rigorous enough for the scholarly reader. This would make an excellent textbook for an Adult Ed or college course.Two sections particularly moved me: the fourth chapter, about contemporary issues, raises some fascinating hiddushim: here are the titles of two of its subsections: "Multiply and fill up the Earth: Are We There Yet?" and "Eat and Be Satisfied: How Much is Enough?" The other, the sixth and final chapter "Ha'am Ve'Ha'aretz: The Land of Israel and a Jewish Sense of Place", is the first piece I've read that deals with the issue of Zionism satisfactorily. It honestly tackles the romantic landscape of traditional Judaism, the reality and challenges of life in modern Israel, and weaves them with the ideas of "Deep" Ecology's land ethic.
