The emphasis on code leaves little room for non-code configuration options, which receive very little mention.With all the code, there is no detail on why or how a given component should be used, or any key features or options. In short, no practical advice. ..

Really solid examples of Camel's EIP patterns.

This book is seriously amazing. I've had the first edition for a long time, and found myself actually eagerly awaiting the release of the updated version. There is a ton of value in here even if you have the first, and even if you savy yourself a fairly competent camel developer.Everything the old book did, this one does a lot better...and the additional subjects are really helpful (specifically the microservices stuff). There is stuff in this book, and in the examples that are available for free on github, that you literally won't find adequately explained ANYWHERE else. In fact, if you pay close enough attention while troubleshooting camel stuff you'll see that the guy who writes this book (Claus) is actually the guy who answers or chimes in on the majority of camel questions on stackoverflow and the apache forums. He also seems very active in the apache sponsored chatroom that they link to on their site. I've had questions answered by him personally in there, and imagine if you needed clarification on any of the subjects in the book beyond the scope he covers them that it would be easy to get in personal contact with him and get further help.The example set on github is extremely helpful, there are a ton of test cases in there. I have already made great use of them, and they haven't even been available for all that long (at time of writing this). Even in the absence of the book, that is a must grab if you are developing any appreciable amount of camel code.Can't thank the author enough for this book, and all the help he provides to the community at large. I probably couldn't do my job without this stuff.

Had only one feeling after finishing this work, instant classic! To say he’s gifted would be a gross understatement! I’ve been a fan of Dingo's work for years( since his performances at Village and Weekendz) so I knew I had to get this book. "A Window to Let the Light Out" didn’t disappoint... in fact, it exceeded expectations. The usual “Dingo” humor is present, but a new maturity and command of language is also evident, while still laced with roots, culture, and a blouse and skirt vibe.I highly recommend it to all.

Love, love, love these poems. I can’t stop reading I Wanna Love You, Autocorreck, and Home. As a Jamaican woman, these poems resonate with me on a truly deep level because I hear the reggae music behind the words, feel the sun and waves on the page, and can enjoy the landscapes the poems celebrate. Nuff respect Richard Dingwall, thanks for the words that give life to my thoughts.

If you’re looking for a purely neuroscientific journal alone, or someone’s memoir, or just some inspiration to help you reach out to someone afflicted —- this is not your book. But if you want all three you will be grateful for reading this remarkable book. I wanted to dislike it — because I’ve read almost everything on addiction, one of my continuing puzzles about human existence — but I just couldn’t put it down. Right to the last sentence, on the last page, I was compelled to think in new ways. In fact, her last line really shows how completely she has grasped the tragedy of addiction: (speaking of how to cure it) “While we’re at it, instead of wringing our hands, we might try reaching for another’s.” Powerful stuff.

I read on Kindle the Table of Contents or Chapter headings in advance of receiving my copy and VERIFIED my suspicion that the author most likely knows nothing of the importance of feedback and control mechanisms of electrical circuitry in the human brain or in the electronics now capable of functioning intelligently and mimicking human capacities to some degree. I am disappointed in advance that this is just another personal memoir, like the one I have been planning to write for many years about how parental and sibling abuse and neglect fosters misbehavior, anti-social characteristics and ultimately, the desire and needcto live in a world disconnected from reality and insulated from pain by neurochemical imbalances. I hope there is at least some intelligent discussions around neurotransmitters, so I’m tentatively upgrading my review from two stars to three of them. The author has her PhD in psychology and so has functioned successfully in a University environment. The fact that she has her Doctorate could just be University faculty & scholars doing their best to promote and aggrandize their own credentials and political agenda, or, I hope that there is really some valuable insight into what environmental and genetic factors cause or foster a predisposition to addictions, and how the average or general person can surmount personal obstacles.

I found Grisel’s ability to synthesize so many coherent pieces of addiction and neuroscience into a whole spellbinding. I have worked both personally and professionally with addiction for over 30 years and learned long ago the complexity of treating addiction. Stigma, moral judgements and secrecy prevent open discussion among most people grappling with addiction. Historically, moral overtones predicates science in the discussion of addiction. Grisel’s clarity in explaining neuroscience and her experience of addiction gave this reader a telescope with a more informed lens.

Outstanding book and research work being done on drugs and addiction - for those who want the details. The author does not dumb it down too much for the reader which I greatly appreciate. I want to know the biological/neurological processes taking place and why but there is still so much to learn.Thank you, Dr. Grisel!

This was a super interesting book that had loads of detail on what happens in the addicts brain depending on the drug. I am in awe of this authors ability to come out of deep addiction to study and teach about the brain and addiction. She is also very humble and acknowledge s there is still much to learn but expands on things that do work for addicts (support in groups of others etc..) highly recommend this book but you have to be willing to grind through some scientific terminology and detail.

As I began reading this great book, I thought, "Finally." Over the years, I have read so many misapprehensions of the role of dopamine in addiction. It is regularly presented as the "pleasure chemical", when in fact, its role is to 1) make one notice/remember a rewarding experience, and 2) drive one to seek out the source of pleasure (in this case, drugs, but it could be food, sex or anything that activates the brain's reward system).A former addict herself, and clean for three decades, Grisel begins with a brief overview of her own history as a user. She clearly explains the mechanisms of tolerance, withdrawal, and craving (the big three of addiction), before dedicating separate chapters to drugs such as stimulants, alcohol, marijuana, opioids, and tranquilizers. Despite their similarities, drugs affect the brain in idiosyncratic ways. For example, whereas a stimulant like cocaine works by directly increasing alertness, caffeine achieves the same goal by "blocking drowsiness", a subtle but important distinction.She concludes with a heartfelt and often philosophical approach to "solving addiction." While she freely admits that she doesn't have the answers, she presents a framework for how society can work together on this scourge,.Finally, while the book would probably be considered "popular" science, at times I found Grisel's style dense and academic. I don't mean this negatively in any way, in fact, I prefer this sort of science writing. As someone with a 30 year history in psychology, as undergrad, grad student, and now teacher, I sometimes had to re-read sections to fully understand them. At least a cursory background in neuroscience would certainly enhance one's enjoyment!

Highly recommended. Blending her personal story with serious science, neuroscientist and researcher Judith Grisel introduces the reader to core concepts in addiction - how it happens, why we get addicted, and how various drugs work on the brain. With her gripping personal story threaded throughout, she speaks both personally and professionally to all those who would understand this modern day scourge.

Let me say first that I enjoyed this read. It is a very engaging novel. There are some things that I do not like about it because of it being considered inspirational fiction.The main female character,Andrea Henderson leaves her life in Houston, to return to her parents' lake house in Larkspur Cove, an exclusive resort at Moses Lake. Since she is now a resident of Moses Lake, she and her son get to know the residents of Moses Lake and not just the vacationers. I have had this experience when I worked at local businesses at the beach two different summers in college. You begin to see the vacation paradise in a new light and that there are problems among the pretty facade.Andrea begins working for a counselor who does long term meeting with the clients of the county child welfare program. Through this she begins to leave her country club facade behind and deal with the real issues of the society. There is great poverty on the lake. The mystery of this novel involves the town recluse who now seems to have a little girl with him wherever he goes.Andrea and her son are damaged from the public disgrace of her ex-husband who was a church leader. Andrea arrives in Moses Lake scared and angry and afraid that she and her son can ever heal. She is bitter and she abandons the church and the most part God. I think this is a very timely subject because the facade of the perfect church is fading. I like that it shows that Christians aren't perfect, they need to be the people God is calling them to be. In this new environment they thrive as people want to be with them because of who they are and not their church positionAndrea through her work meets the local game warden, Mart McClendon. He has returned to his boyhood home to escape himself and his family. He also needs forgiveness. Primarily from his own inability to forgive himself.So this is my dilemma, these two people find forgiveness and healing and they find the ability to be real and genuine people. I just don't like that this healing seems to come more from their relationship with each other then from God. I like that Andrea begins to see herself as free. This freedom seems to always express it self by running into the night for clandestine meetings with Mart. Although their relationship does not involve sexual relations, making out in the dark in the moonlight just doesn't seem like appropriate behavior for the mother of someone who is reeling from his father's adultery.I think a new man is a very worldly solution to healing and forgiveness. I wish this novel had shown the healing more from God or even a community of faith. I think inspirational fiction should point to Jesus as the healer not just a man.I received no compensation for this review. I did receive the book free of charge from Bethany House.

As a reader, I shared their pain, doubts, and joys as they experienced them. I was drawn to both Andrea's and Mart's stories, but also those of her son, the mysterious child, and the town recluse.Wingate masterfully creates vivid pictures of life on Moses Lake, that is remarkably real with struggles, sorrow, and triumphs, but equally inviting because of the sense of community. The Waterbird Bait and Grocery is the hangout for the locals, and I looked forward to the engaging conversations provided by the local fishermen. They provide just the right flavor to lighten the mood, and they are reminiscent of the presence of "characters" in real-life that can brighten our day. The quotes that begin each chapter, which are written on the "wall of wisdom" by residents and visitors, offer insight into the novel, but they are also valuable in our own lives. Larkspur Cove is both an emotional and satisfying read.I am looking forward to visiting Moses Lake again in Lisa Wingate's next book in the series, Blue Moon Bay. Theresa Romain's stories often include characters who are not nobility and I find that to be a refreshing change. Lady Notorious centers on Cass Benton, a de facto Bow Street Runner. Readers met Cass & several other characters here, in Lady Rogue. Cass is not officially a runner, because she's a woman, but she and her twin brother work cases together, with Cass often doing the bulk of the work. She is hired by George, Lord Northbrook, to investigate a possible plot to kill his father, the Duke of Ardmore. This plot involves several other nobles, and allows for some repeat appearances of other Lady Rogue characters. In helping George, Cass poses as a member of the nobility, but this isn't a Pygmalion trope, and there is little in the narrative to support the portrayal of Cass as Lady Notorious. I still enjoyed Cass; she is a bundle of smarts and I loved her vitality. She is doing all the work, "finding a way" while still struggling against the constraints on women. She knows this and it bothers her. George, Lord Northbrook, is not the usual dilettante noble or a rake. He's charming and basically kind, as well as interested in learning about the Duchy he's to inherit. He wants to help his troubled parents but doesn't know how to yet. And he's passionate about his camera obscura. There is chemistry between the two and the heat level is just right. The scheme and plot against members of the nobility, really feels like just a set up tool and is frankly not really dealt with much. When the scheme is included, the pacing slows and the story suffers a bit. The connection between Cass and George is really the warmth and heart of the story. They don't simple solve a murder plot, George and Cass help each other see that perhaps making your way in the world, is about what you yourself do and not just the rules others put in place for you. And it helps to have someone by your side along the way. A good addition to the Royal Rewards series, with the mystery playing a smaller role than in the other books. Fans of Theresa Romain should enjoy this one. Readers new to Romain, should start with the first in the series, to get a better feel for Romain's style.

If you like 100% historical accuracy in your Regency romances, this definitely isn’t the book for you. With a female Bow Street Runner (in all but the salary) and the son of a Duke as romantic protagonists, there are aspects of the story that definitely fail the plausibility test.That said, it was absolutely brilliant and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes, yes, I know, I’m normally a nitpicky cow about historical inaccuracies, but there’s a difference between implausible and impossible. It’s implausible that a woman was working for the Bow Street Runners as an unofficial investigator in 1818, whereas it’s impossible (I’m looking at you, Marie Force) to have a horse-drawn carriage travel from Essex to Scotland with a single overnight stop. Just imagine this as a parallel-universe Regency England where women could hold down jobs and were treated with respect, and you’ll thoroughly enjoy it.Cassandra works for Bow Street unofficially as her twin brother Charlie’s (the actual Runner) assistant, but the reality is she’s the mastermind of the pair. When Charlie breaks his leg on a case while climbing a trellis into a lady’s bedchamber because he fancies himself a Romeo, Cassandra takes the case on alone, and is thrust into company with George, Marquis of Northbrook, who believes someone may be out to kill his father.George is an absolute delight. Yes, he’s the spoiled and pampered son of a duke, but he’s also a smart sort who can see clearly the devastation his father’s love of gambling and his mother’s addiction to laudanum has wrought. He’s fun and likable and nobody really takes him seriously, but Cassandra not only sees through his facade, she makes him want to be more than an heir in waiting. His willingness to try new things, his near-insatiable curiosity about everything and his acceptance of Cassandra for exactly who she was made him honestly one of my favourite romance heroes in ages.Suspend your disbelief at the door and just enjoy this charming, witty and clever Regency romance with an enlightened hero and an emancipated heroine. I was delighted, and I definitely want to read more by this author, who I hadn’t encountered before. And on that note, this isn’t the first in the series, but I didn’t find it a problem at all to follow along with the plot and the other characters. Cassandra (Cass) Benton is hiding in the shadows of Deverall Place at 1:00 am. Hired as a housemaid, her real job is to shadow Lord Deverell until he goes to bed at night. Her twin brother, Charles, works as a footman in the same household. Both of them work for Bow Street but have been hired by George, Lord Northbrook, son and heir to the Duke of Ardmore.Around 40 years ago, the younger sons of 10 aristocrats placed a secret wager called a tontine and now after careful investing, is worth 100,000 pounds. The one survivor of the group receives all the money. Some have now died of natural causes, however in recent years, some of the investors have died under mysterious circumstances, thus necessitating Lord Northbrook’s investigation. His godfather, Lord Deverell, is one of the survivors and he worries that if someone is killing them off, he wants to protect his godfather. But when someone manages to sneak into the house and stabs the man but not killing him, George feels he needs to step up the protection. Thus, he hatches a scheme to have Cass move into the house pretending to be his cousin and assume the name of Mrs. Bendetti and mix with the ton hoping to ferret out the killer. The ton seems to accept this clever woman - a red head with an Italian name. Huh?By that time, I had a headache trying to piece all of this together while asking myself why authors must write Regency novels with heroines as spies. Please. This trope has been done to death. I really like the author and have read many of her novels but I do not think I can digest another Regency spy novel. Please get back to writing a “real” Regency romance.I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

I am a volunteer with my church's sound system. Before this book came along, I really could only adjust volume levels on the mixing board channels. The rest of the controls were a bit of a mystery. This book was written for people such as me and I can't begin to recommend it highly enough. It goes into a lot of basic sound theory IF you need/want it, yet will tell you where to skip in the book if you have more experience and don't need that part. I think that every church mixing board operator should read this book. I am finding it so helpful and the writing style is informative yet very readable - not dry at all! My kudos to the author and my thanks for providing a much-needed book.

I have read multiple books on sound mixing, but this by far is the best I have read in terms of breaking down the jargon and explaining things in plain English. Working with a volunteer team, that does not have time to take a college class on sound, this book makes it way easier to explain how each component works and what we are looking for in our mix. I recommend this book to anyone that is interested in church sound mixing, beginner or advanced, or anyone that is doing it now and struggling to get things right.

This book is fantastic! I'm only through the first chapter (and have skimmed other sections too) and I am absolutely in love with it. The author has done an excellent job of taking complex topics and simplifying them to a level that a beginner can understand WITHOUT compromising the importance and detail of the topic. This book is written for the average church volunteer but is a great resource for people who have run sound for a long time but maybe have never had any technical training. I love this book and will be purchasing a copy for each member of my A/V team at church.

This book puts things in plain language and the author does a great job of explaining things. If you are looking for a book about not just "Great Church Sound" but want to know more about mixing boards and setups, this is it.

Finally someone makes sense of a subject that always presents problems that seem overly complex, mysterious and unanswerable. These are things that I think many people, like us hackers, would prefer the DIY approach but can wind up paying big bucks for solutions because we cannot seems to get our hands around the problem. Knowledge is Power!

I got this with a little suspicion but I'm glad I did. The insights I got are very good and well explained. It has helped me to understand all these cool features on my digital mixer more.

Finally found the book to review it. I read it in one sitting. Crafty Nichole does it again!Just for the benefit of those folks who read this review and aren't familiar with the Diary of an Angry Alex series: You had best start with Book 1 and follow the story along. Trust me, it's not hard to get hooked on it. The story focuses on Alex, one of the two default skins/characters in Minecraft. The other, Steve, is Alex's companion in the story. But they don't really get along. Well, just enough to deal with a villain like in this one!Each of the Diary of an Angry Alex is its own adventure. Like Alex plotting to kill Steve, Alex being mad at the villagers, and Alex and Steve meeting an evil Steve clone. Book 6 of the series finds Alex and Steve hiding in a village that they'd help build in a previous story. The village is under-attack by the "anti-Steve" (Herobrine) who's bent on destroying everything, it seems. All the stories are told from Alex's point of view. While both Alex and Steve want to get rid of the bad guy, Alex has mixed feelings about Steve and has often thought of getting rid of him as well. However, Alex is not a bad person at heart; it's just that Steve is really annoying from her point of view.I encourage you to read these stories! They are very funny, and Alex is a likable character despite her flaws and epic failures. Steve is an annoying twerp seen through her eyes, but we know he isn't a bad guy either. Aside from the characters, what will really capture Minecraft fans is how the author skillfully incorporates elements of the game into the story. It will really make you laugh. It's brilliant.I have no suggestions other than Alex - who started out as a novice miner and fighter in Book 1 - should grow more experienced and skillful in later stories. Now I wonder, will there be an "Alex vs. Steve" in the future? :)

Before I begin, I will like to say that this is my FAVORITE Crafty Nicole series.In this exciting chapter of Diary of an Angry Alex, Alex and Steve are trapped in a village that is under siege by Herobrine. They mine their way out to try to escape. After many failed attemps they finally seek shelter in a Ocean Monument. What will happen to them in side the Monument? Will Herobrine find Alex and her companion?Sorry for any spoils, I hope I didn't give away too much.This is (in my opinion) the best series for Crafty Nicole. I like how she puts reviewers in her books a the end. I've seen W. shi "JENN", Power, and Astrocat, which are at the top of my list when it comes to reviewers. (P.S. I hope you three like the compliment) I've read most of your book Nicole and my favorites are: Diary of a minecraft griever, diary of a grumpy villager, and this one.So…Yeah, this is my first review for a Crafty Nichole book (partly because you write so fast and so much. OMS this series is great! Alex fails at life, Steve can fall into a hole, what could be better? And! Yes, there's more. And! And and and! The WHOLE THING, you hear me? I pre-ordered this book last year after the happy surprise of seeing “Nan Goldin: The Ballad of Sexual Dependency” on exhibit at the MoMA. It reminded me of the admiration I had had for Ms. Goldin’s work when I discovered it as a teen and amateur hobby photographer. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed and disappointed at “The Beautiful Smile.” I found perhaps fifteen of these photos worth print publication. While I am not a professional paid to give my photography review, I am (perhaps like you) a consumer who paid $30 for this hardcover that did not meet my expectations. There is an endless amount of blurry photographs with no focal point (that reached me, anyway). I recognize that these photos are special and evocative to the artist and her friends; but for a contemporary outsider, the selection feels under-edited and self-indulgent. Simply not her best selection. And certainly not for everyone (but if you are familiar with her work, you already know this).

Ravishing. Impeccable Steidl re-issue. Maybe a little explicit for some tastes, but it couldn't be more tender and loving.

I have many books on Linux and ubuntu. I am a beginner but as far as really understanding what you need to know to properly use Linux, this is the best. It is just very clear and user friendly. It gave me details that are very important and somehow missed. Like the space after CD and case sensitivity. They all mention it but this book shows you the command and explains it. This is my go to book. I am glad it was only 99 cents. When I went to the review, I expected it to be one of my more expensive books. This is the only book you will need to thoroughly navigate through the command line and your system. It is for beginners but the beginning is a long road. I study java and play with other languages but I didn't think to really get through my own computer, which I have been using a fairly user friendly gui. With so many forums out there, I could still do what I needed as long as I could grasp the details. This book makes it all easier.

Most books lack the big picture, the conceptual explanation, and a use for the command after it has been illustrated. This covers enough to get you up & running with the command line, nicely. If you are missing pieces of the basic Linux puzzle this will be quite helpful. It's definitely worth the price & more.

This is a great, inexpensive beginners guide for new users to Linux. There were a lot of typos, but the book is a well written guide and I didn't notice any typo's in the commands. The book covers the basic commands, and getting around the Linux shell. The section on using Vim was great and well explained. If you are an absolute beginner to Linux I think the book is a steal for the price. If you are a seasoned user or someone with more than a basic understanding of getting around Linux , you may want to move on to some more advanced reading.Taken from the book :In the Guide, you'll learn how to: Copy, move, and delete files and directories. A very handy guide, and from my iPad easy to keep near the Linux screen. Yes, I have seen a few typos, but I find some in printed literary works from time to time as well. The only part lacking thus far (I am a little over 1/2 way into the book) was no instruction on adding a user to the sudoers file. I am working CentOS at the moment, but think it's pretty much the same in Ubuntu. My test user could not access root privileges via the sudo command because it was not in the sudoers file. It took a little web searching to learn how to edit that file and add the user, then it worked. But I haven't found those tips in this book. I might also recommend for newbies doing the same to create a group ("admin" is a good name choice), give the group root privileges, and then add any users to that group as needed. That solves the problem, and does not require manually adding each user to sudoers individually.All in all, though, this book is just what I needed to begin to learn the Linux command line, and recommend it to anyone seeking same,

There are several book like this one available and all are good. I recommend reading all of them, especially for the give-away prices, because there are things that one author will explain that goes over your head, but then when you read the same topic in one of the other books, it's an "AHA moment."This one focuses on using command-line commands instead of the GUI interface. Translation: The focus is on typing coded commands into a line on your desktop instead of clicking on a little icon do to the same thing. This works for some folks and not for others. I prefer the icons, BUT . . . there are times when it is to your distinct advantage to know how the command-line function works, so even if you're not that interested now, it's a good one to skim through so you'll know where to look when you need the info!Highly recommended. So is Ubuntu! If you're a newbie, stick with it. Read this book and the others like it. It's worth your while!

It doesn't go very deep, but it's not supposed to. It is very clear and picks a good set of topics for beginners. I know a little more than raw beginner, but i picked up a couple of pointers here and was glad i took the short time required to read this.

Most beginner books for Linux flood the reader with the obscurity that makes learning Linux difficult. this author makes things simple, and straight forward; a useful tutorial, that doesn't keep you guessing how Linux works. Many typos and grammatical errors, but besides this small annoyance, the book is very useful, easy to read, and much more straight forward than Linux itself :-)
